How does it work?
Smarter, cheaper, private Claude Code sessions. velvet is a set of Claude Code plugins by Tovex Systems that makes everyday decisions for you on your own machine: how hard Claude should think on each turn, which model a task deserves, and how to get simple web jobs done in seconds.
No per-decision fees. Nothing you type or browse leaves your computer for these decisions.
What it does
Right-sized effort, every turn
velvet reads each request and picks how much effort Claude should spend on it. Quick questions get quick answers; only genuinely hard turns go to the most capable model at full effort. Every subagent Claude starts gets the same treatment, with its own model and effort chosen for the job.
- Saves money and time on the many easy turns in a session
- Keeps the heavy model for the turns that actually need it
- Can run in shadow mode first: it only logs what it would have chosen, so you can review its
choices before letting it act
- If anything goes wrong, it steps aside and Claude Code behaves exactly as it normally would
Fast browser tasks
Give velvet one narrow goal on a website, such as "open this store and read the price of X" or "search this site for Y", and it carries out the clicks in one go, then hands the final page back to Claude to check. A task that would take Claude many slow back-and-forth steps finishes in seconds.
- Built-in guardrails: it refuses to buy, book, send or delete anything
- Never makes up personal details. Email, name, phone, address or card fields only get values you gave
- Claude verifies every result instead of trusting a "done"
Runs on your machine
- A small background service that starts on its own with your Claude Code session
- One-command install, plus a built-in health check that explains any problem and how to fix it
- Works on macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) and Linux; faster with a GPU or Apple silicon
How well it works
Browser tasks with many steps (long forms, date pickers, hidden menus) are not its strength yet. For those, Claude browses step by step as usual.
